Description

'Photographing a native runner from Ladysmith with letters from the besieged inhabitants'. Photographic colour reproduction of a drawing by O Eckhardt, after a sketch by Ernest Prater. The Boer War took place in South Africa from 11 October 1899 to 31 May 1902. During the war, British troops led by General Sir George White were besieged in the town of Ladysmith. This was one of three sieges carried out by the Boers.
