Looking for the 'Alabama', c 1860s.

Watercolour drawing entitled 'Recherche a l'Alabama', in the form of a stratified diagram showing Ernest Bazin's electric light being used to locate the steamboat Alabama. The light is suspended underwater from the surface vesel and shines on the Alabama which lies on the seabed. In 1864, French engineer Bazin was the first person to use electric lighting underwater.
