Description

One of 14 sketches and watercolours of scenes along the coasts and islands of the South Atlantic, by Lieutenant E N Kendall RN, 1828-1831, during the voyage of HMS 'Chanticleer' under Captain Henry Foster, to take gravity observations and measurements, particularly by means of a Kater invariable pendulum. Pencil sketches of the men in uniform, some with names, using radios, surveying equipment and the invariable pendulum, which measures gravitational force by the rate of swing of the pendulum.
