Lithograph by J Baynes after a drawing by Sir John Thomas Stanley Bart (1766-1850), printed by C Hullmandel. An artist is shown among the awed visitors at the scene. Stanley Bart's accounts of the hot springs near Rykum and Haukadal, in Iceland, were published in two letters to Dr J Black, 1791, with Black's analysis of their waters; and in the Royal Society of Edinburgh Transactions, (Vol 3, 1794).
