Description

Lithograph by Venner 'Cherchant a faire prendre des vesies pour des lanternes' - 'Trying to take the bladders for the lanterns'. A figure representing 'The Universe' is about to smash a lantern representing '19th century Progres' . He holds a bladder, suspended from a string, marked 'The Light of the Golden Age'. Printed by Martinet and Trinocq (Paris). Taken from a collection of prints and books documenting the early history of the gas industry amased by Sir Arthur Elton.
