Description

Lithograph by G Scharf after J Paroisien, showing a street scene in Santiago, the capital of Chile. Dandies in top hats stroll down the street, with a column of soldiers riding past. On the right is the mint building; in the foreground a woman sells fruit. Illustration from 'Travels into Chile, over the Andes, in the years 1820 and 1821' by Peter Schmidtmeyer, published in London in 1824.
