Hanging washing out to dry in the street. Hanging washing out to dry in the street, c 1930s. 'A police ban on hanging washing out in the street was defied at Claremont Grove in Leeds. The ban applied particularly to Alice Ashworth, who has been hanging it out in this cul de sac as long as she can remember. The complainant, Mrs Cynthia Wood, who lives at number 3 opposite Mrs Ashworth, remained indoors during the demonstration. No police action followed'.
