Description

A receipt isued for the purchase of coal by the Newburn Colliery at Newcastle upon Tyne for a stated number of Newcastle chaldrons - the standard measurement for coal - which was the equivalent of 36 bushels, or approximately 2134 kilos. A vignette on the receipt shows miners with their pickaxes, and a smoking chimney in the distance.
