Coloured engraving, by A Ashley after a drawing by Joseph Francis Burrell (active 1801-1854). The Brighton Viaduct, on the London & Brighton Railway, was built in the 1840s, crosing the London Road near Brighton. This print was one of a series by Burrell produced for the British Gazetteer. From the 1830s, when the construction of Britain's main railway lines began, prints such as these were produced in large quantities. Published by H G Collins, London.
