Lithograph, drawn and lithographed by Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait (1819-1905), printed and published by Bradshaw and Blacklock, London and Manchester. Pasengers are shown on a platform, awaiting a train, while others prepare to board a train on the opposite platform. The Liverpool & Manchester Railway was designed by George Stephenson (1781-1848) and opened in September 1830. One of the first ever railway tunnels was built for the LNWR by William MacKenzie (1794-1851) at Edge Hill, Liverpool.
