Aston Hall was built between 1618 and 1635 for Sir Thomas Holte in the Jacobean style. The mansion was badly damaged during the English Civil War. In 1817 the house was leased to James Watt Junior, the son of the great industrial pioneer. At the start of the 21st century the house contained work from the collections of the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
