Photogravure by Walker & Boutall. Cannizzaro (1826-1910) discovered Cannizzaro's reaction which makes it posible to obtain alcohols from aldehydes. He is also remembered for his revival of Avogadro's (1776-1856) Hypothesis and was the first to understand the importance of Avogadro's work on atomic weights.
