Delegates attending the 1st of the Solvay Physics Conferences which were initiated by Belgian chemist and industrialist Ernest Solvay (1838-1922). The 1911 conference discused current questions of molecular and kinetic theory. Those present included such luminaries as Marie Curie (1867-1934), Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937), Albert Einstein (1879-1955), Max Planck (1858-1947) and Paul Langevin (1872-1946).
