Engraving by R Hancock after a painting by I Wright of Richard Lovett (1692-1780). Lovett wrote a philosophical esay in three parts, including a brief theory of the north magnetic pole, and the mariner's compas needle. In 1758 Lovett declared himself able to cure disease by the aid of electricity.
