Carte de visite photograph by the Stereoscopic Company of James Scott Bowerbank (1797-1877). Bowerbank lectured on botany and human osteology (a branch of anatomy dealing with the bones). He was one of the founders of the London Clay Club and of the Palaeontographical Society. He wrote 'Fosil Fruits of the London Clay' (1840), and was also a partner in a London distillery.
