Engraving. James Watt (1736-1819) was a Scottish engineer and inventor who was at the forefront of the development of steam engines - a vital driving force of the Industrial Revolution. In 1774, together with his busines partner Matthew Boulton (1728-1809), he established a manufactory of steam engines in Soho, near Birmingham, of which this is a view.
