The letterhead features an engraving of the Combe, Barbour & Combe factory in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Combe's patent roll winder, used in the textiles industry, introduced the practice of rope driving - transmitting power to spindles by means of ropes running in grooves turned circumferentially in the rim of the pulley. This letter, to R Jenkins of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, relates to rope driving.
