Chromolithograph. An invitation to the laying of the Memorial Stone at Tower Bridge on Monday 21 June 1886 in the presence of HRH the Prince of Wales. Tower Bridge was designed by Sir John Wolfe Barry and Horace Jones, and was built between 1881 and 1894. The bridge is an example of a bascule bridge, where the central section can be opened drawbridge-style to enable shipping to pas through. It was officially opened by the Prince of Wales in June 1894.
