Plate taken from the 'Illustrated London News'. This invention, an elaborate version of the 'Cycloped', a method of transport rejected by the Rainhill locomotive trials over two decades previously, was proposed as an alterative to the 'costly' steam locomotive. The four horses stood on a circular platform which slipped backwards as they moved forwards, turning the mechanism's driving wheels.
