Balloonist Vincent Lunardi (1759-1806) took Mrs Laetitia Sage and George Biggin on their first aerial voyage which went from Vauxhall Gardens, over St James's Park and Piccadilly, before landing over two hours later in fields near Harrow. Mrs Sage later published her experience as England's first female aeronaut. Biggin became a regular companion of Lunardi's and a popular aerial traveller. Illustration from 'Histoire des ballons et des aeronautes celebres: 1783-1800' (History of balloons and famous aeronauts), by Gaston Tisandier (1843-1899), published in 1887.
