Plate from the 'Illustrated London News'. In his study the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII (1841-1910), is surrounded by mementos of his travels in 1875-1876 to India and Ceylon, Egypt and Gibraltar: the tiger rug, stuffed bear and the oriental table. Marlborough House was the traditional residence of the heir to the throne but was granted usage to the Commonwealth Secretariat in 1965.
