Set of bras nested cup weights with box and a selection square grain weights used for general weighing in the district of Alicante in Spain. These weights were collected in 1818 from the local market of the area through the agency of the British consulate in the district. These weights along with other examples from throughout the world were collected at the behest of the British foreign secretary, Viscount Castlereagh. Their values were then determined so that a list of foreign measures could be published as an aid to British merchants trading abroad.
