Description

Photograph. The three pose for photographers on the steps of the President's Hyde Park New York home after the the aviators' transatlantic crosing in 'Seafarer' in 1933. Jim and Amy Mollison attempted a non-stop flight from England to New York in the de Havilland DH-84 Dragon I, G-ACCV. Although they succesfully crosed the Atlantic, their aircraft ran out of fuel les than 50 miles from their destination and crashed during the attempted forced landing. They both suffered minor injuries, as evidenced by the bandage on Amy's elbow. Amy Mollison joined the Air Transport Auxiliary as a pilot in World War II, and was mysteriously lost after apparently baling out of her aircraft over the Thames estuary in 1941.
