Engraved plate 55 from 'Voyage autour du monde' ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826). The artifacts include an axe, necklaces, a wooden bowl, a wooden basket which is hung over a fire (probably for cooking or smoking food), a shell ornament, and a belt. Oualan (or Ualan) in the Caroline Islands archipelago is now part of the Federated States of Micronesia. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its voyage (1822-1825) to Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
