Engraved plate 25 from 'Voyage autour du monde' ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826). Illustrated are a Vakoi-leaf mat, a cleaning tool, a paddle, a fetish, wooden headrests, a comb, harpoons, a cylindrical case, shell bracelets, and a shield. These items are from the island of 'Waigiou', now known as Pulau Waigeo, and is in Irian Jaya, Indonesia. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its voyage (1822-1825) to Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
