Description

Engraving by Ambroise Tardieu after Lejeune and Chazal, plate 2 from 'Voyage autour du monde' ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826). Above is an indigenous Chilean man, and below an anchor used by the Talcahuano indians. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its voyage (1822-1825) to Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
