Title page from 'Natural magick' by Giambattista della Porta, (1535?-1615), published in 1658. At the four corners are representations of the elements; a salamander for fire, birds and wind for air, animals for earth, and sea creatures for water. Top centre is Chaos, with signs of the zodiac. Allegorical figures representing Art and Nature flank the title, and the author appears below, wearing an Elizabethan ruff, with the sun and a flaming heart in the background.
