Description

Lithograph by Bouchol for a song sheet entitled 'L'Omnibus aerien'. This satirical variety song, written by E Bourget and composed by J Nargeot, lampoons an invention in London and a supposed aerial bus journey around the world in 48 hours made by a Mr Hanneton. The image shows a steam-powered aerial bus, 'L'Hirondelle' ('The Swallow'), which is based on Henson's aerial Steam Carriage of 1843, carrying international pasengers and arriving at Mont Blanc summit station. Dimensions: 320mm x 250mm.
