Description

A printed broadsheet advertising the 'Grand Polish Fete' on Monday 17 August 1840, which included a balloon ascent by the English aeronaut Charles Green (1785-1870) from Cremorne House in Chelsea, Greater London. Green's most famous flight was made in the 'Royal Vauxhall' balloon (later renamed the 'Nasau') from Vauxhall, London to Nasau in Germany on 7 November 1836. It was on this voyage, along with pasengers Robert Holland MP and Thomas Monck Mason, that Green succesfully completed the world's longest flight, covering an estimated 480 miles (770 km) in 18 hours.
