Description

Lithograph by Paul Gauci after a drawing from nature, showing preparations being made for Profesor Cornillot's ascent in a hydrogen balloon from Seal on 23 August 1825. On this flight, Cornillot and his companion, Thomas R Jolliffe established the principle of flying in a horizontal direction from any point of elevation.
