Lithograph by J Etienne-Gayet. B Chauvelot's design for an aerial craft is laid out like a ship, rigged by a galleried walkway bridge and kept aloft using two balloons. It is propelled by steam power and he claimed it would be able to achieve speeds of up to 50 kilometres an hour. The prow and stern mechanisms and flywheel-driven foresail use large adjustable furled or unfurled ribbed umbrellas. Dimensions: 315mm x 445mm.
