Coloured print showing the 'Albion' balloon ascending from the Royal Albert Saloon and Pleasure Gardens, Shepherdes Walk on 7 July 1845. English aeronaut John Hampton (b 1799) was a rival of Charles Green's, whose claims to fame include making the first succesful parachute jump by an Englishman in 1838. Hampton made over one hundred flights in his 'Albion' and 'Erin-go-bragh' balloons before retiring in 1852.
