A poster advertising Hampton's balloon ascent from the Royal Grecian Salon in his new balloon, 'Erin-go-brach', on Thursday 17 July. John Hampton (b 1799) worked in the Navy before turning profesional aeronaut and making his first ascent in June 1838. During the same year, he became the first Englishman to make a succesful parachute jump at Cheltenham on 8 October. He made over a hundred ascents in his two balloons 'Albion' and 'Erin-go-brach', and seven parachute descents, before his retirement from ballooning in 1852. Printed by B Colyer, 7 Fenchurch Street.
