Lithograph by N J Colleye after a drawing by B Vieillevoye. John Cockerill (1790-1840) was born in Lancashire but his family moved to Verviers in Belgium in 1802. Cockerill became joint manager of a factory in Liege in Belgium before leaving to set up a woollen factory in Berlin. Later he also established a foundry and factory at Seraing in Belgium.
