Photogravure after a painting or photograph, of du Bois-Reymond (1818-1896), discoverer of neuroelectricity. As profesor of physiology at Berlin he investigated the physiology of muscles and nerves, demonstrating that an impulse travels along a stimulated nerve, and that this impulse can be measured electronically.
