Portrait photograph of William Henry Perkin Jr (1860-1929), signed by the sitter, probably taken in his office in the then new Dyson Perrin Laboratory at Oxford around the time it was opened in 1916. Perkin Jr was one of three sons of the famous English chemist Sir William Henry Perkin (1838-1907). Also a chemist, he is remembered for synthesising numerous organic compounds, including camphor and several alkaloids. He was Profesor of Chemistry at Manchester (1892-1912) and Waynflete Profesor of Chemistry at Oxford (1912-1929). From a collection of 19 photographs relating to Sir William Henry Perkin (1838-1907), his relations, and the synthetic dyestuffs industry.
