Studio portrait photograph by Maull and Polyblank of Apsley Pellatt (1791-1863). Pellatt joined his father's glas company, Pellatt and Green, in London, at the age of 21, taking over the busines following his father's death in 1826. In 1819 he took out a patent for 'crystallo ceramie' - the proces of encasing a medallion in glas, later known as 'Cameo Incrustation'. He wrote a book about this proces entitled 'Memoir on the Origin, Progres and Improvement of Glas Manufacture including... Glas Incrustations' in 1821, enlarging and revising it under the title 'Curiosities of Glas Making' in 1849. Dimensions: 200mm x 150mm.
