Studio portrait photograph by Maull and Polyblank. Bowerbank (1797-1877) lectured on botany and human osteology (a branch of anatomy dealing with the bones). He was one of the founders of the London Clay Club and of the Palaeontographical Society. He wrote 'Fosil Fruits of the London Clay' (1840), and was also a partner in a London distillery. Henry Maull and George Henry Polyblank founded the photographic studio Maull & Polyblank in London in 1854, specialising in studio portraits of well-known individuals of the time. Maull went on to form Maull & Co in 1866, and Maull & Fox in 1879. Dimensions: 200mm x 150mm.
