Carte de visite photograph by Franz Neumayer of Carl Theodor Ernst von Siebold (1804-1885). Siebold studied medicine at Berlin University, later becoming a profesor of zoology, physiology and anatomy. He was also a succesful helminthologist and entomologist. In conjunction with F H Stannius he published 'A Manual of Comparative Anatomy' (1845-1848), and in 1848 founded the journal 'Zeitschrift fUr wisenschaftliche Zoologie' ('Magazine for Scientific Zoology'), which he continued to edit until his death in 1885.
