Carte de visite photograph by E Wheeler of Dr William Benjamin Carpenter (1813-1885). Carpenter's fields of interest were zoology, botany and mental physiology. He visited the West Indies, studied medicine in London and Edinburgh, lectured at Bristol Medical School, and was profesor of Forensic Medicine at University College, London. He published 'Principles of Physiology' in 1839.
