Description

Engraving by Ambroise Tardieu after an original work, of Linne, or Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778). Linne was a naturalist and physician who became known as the founder of modern scientific nomenclature for plants and animals. In 1749 he introduced binomial nomenclature of generic and specific names for plants and animals, which permitted the hierarchical organisation later known as systematics.
