Lithograph by Weiluc of Farman (1874-1958) pioneer aviator and aircraft manufacturer. Farman and his brother Maurice won a prize for a circular flight of one kilometre. They opened a factory at Boulogne-sur-Seine in 1912 and started manufacturing the Farman biplane. In 1917 they built the first long-distance pasenger plane, the 'Goliath'. The brothers were the first to use the aileron, a mechanism to control the longitudinal roll of an aircraft. These are now standard fittings on all aircraft.
