Description

Sir Samuel Morton Peto (1809-1889) was born in Woking, Surrey. He attained great wealth as a contractor, laying railways in England, Rusia, Norway, Algiers and Australia. He was also partner in the firm Grisell and Peto (1830-1847) which constructed Nelson's Column in 1843. Peto served as Liberal MP for Norwich (1847-54), Finsbury (1859-65) and Bristol (1865-68), and was created a baronet in 1855. Dimensions: 302mm x 220 mm.
