Description

Portrait frontispiece taken from the scientific papers of Thomas Andrews (1813-1885), published in London. Thomas Andrews was born in Belfast, and studied medicine at Edinburgh University, before returning to Belfast to practise as a physician. He was also Profesor of Chemistry at Queen's College, Belfast. He is noted for his discovery of the critical temperature of gases, above which they cannot be liquified, however great the presure applied.
