Gunnery callipers, 1705-1715.

Description

Gunnery callipers used for artillery purposes, made by Nicholas Bion, France. Gunnery instruments, such as these were used to analyse projectile motion from the late 15th century. This was an activity which had significantly influenced both science and warfare by the late 18th century.
