Group of Edwardian men, 1900s. The numerous Autochromes that have survived, such as this atmospheric group, testify to the succes of the proces with amateur photographers. It was launched in 1904 by the Lumiere brothers and was the first genuinely popular and practical colour proces. The glas plates could be loaded into an ordinary plate camera and procesed quickly and simply to give a full-colour slide.
