Trade advertisement. Etching with engraved copperplate text and border illustrations showing 16 different kinds of oil lamp beneath a night scene, with lights streaming from a coach lantern and a house doorway. The advertisement relates to patent no 1591 of 12 February 1787, awarded to John Miles, and may be the cover from his catalogue of wares. The text emphasises the safety of the lamps, as well as their ability to provide equivalent illumination to that provided by candles but at les cost.
