Description

Illustrated plate titled 'The Quest for Instantaneous Fire' taken from 'An Engineer's Note Book', in 'Casell's Technical Educator', showing various stages in the proces of manufacturing matches: 'mixing composition', the drying room, filling frames, and stamping boxes. The phosphorus match was invented by a French chemistry student, Charles Sauria, in 1827.
