During his footballing career Ally McLeod (b 1931) played left-wing for Hiberian (Hibs) and for the Scottish national side. In 1966 he was appointed manager of Ayr United, a position which he held until 1975 when he left to manage Aberdeen. He went on to become manager of Scotland in 1977, and led the international squad during the ill-fated World Cup campaign of 1978.
