Description

Hand from an artificial arm for an above-elbow amputee, made by the Carnes Artificial Limb Company of Kansas City, United States, and imported into England during World War I. An innovative feature of the arm is the mechanism which enabled the palm of the metal hand, attached to a wooden forearm and socket, to turn upwards as the elbow was flexed. Close up of hand (palm facing up).
